Voters approved California High-Speed Rail in 2008 with a $33 billion price tag and promises of LA-to-SF travel by 2020. Sixteen years and $13.8 billion spent later: zero passengers, zero operating segments, and costs ballooned to $128 billion. The current "plan" won't connect major cities until 2033 at earliest—if ever. Original completion date was 2020.
